Message from the Chair

Lisa Draper

Summer at the Jewish Foundation marks the conclusion of one fiscal year and the beginning of the new one.  Reflecting on our accomplishments since I began as chair I am thrilled that the Jewish Foundation and our family of donors are part of a vibrant, flourishing and compassionate community.  The array of programs that receive support is vast, including countless children having the time of their lives at summer camp, Holocaust survivors receiving support enabling them to live their lives with dignity,  and our diverse Jewish culture that continues to thrive,  all through the support and expertise of the Jewish Foundation.

We are looking forward to another year of strength and stability.  We welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your passions and ideas, and encourage you to share our collective success with your friends and family.

Making an impact... a sample of grants made

Studies confirm that summers at Jewish overnight camp turn Jewish youth into spirited and engaged Jewish adults, laying the groundwork for strong Jewish communities. The Jewish overnight camp experience plays an integral role in establishing, nurturing and maintaining confidence, self-esteem and Jewish identity, while creating lifelong friendships.

For our community’s vulnerable, who struggle to secure even life’s most basic necessities, sending their children to summer camp is a luxury they simply cannot afford. In partnership with Jewish Family & Child, JIAS (Jewish Immigrant Aid Service) Toronto and more than 20 Foundation Fund Holders, 40 children were able to get off the camp waiting list and onto busses for an unforgettable experience. These children represent the most vulnerable in our community as clients of the social service agencies including youngsters in foster care.

This is but one more example of what can be achieved – and how lives are being transformed – by the work of the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto, and its visionary, compassionate and committed family of Fund Holders.

New Jewish Teen Philanthropy Program
Jewish Teen Board of Greater Toronto offers teens the opportunity to work together as a real philanthropic foundation and learn about giving through a Jewish lens. Through thoughtful and engaging sessions, participants meet with organization leaders and philanthropists to identify issues and make real decisions on where donation dollars should go in our community. This program runs for eight months during the school year with the application process beginning each September.
