Message from the Chair

Lisa Draper

Spring is in the air, and the Jewish Foundation of Greater Toronto is buzzing with activity.  With more than $17 million dollars distributed in the first 9 months of the fiscal year (July – March) to a myriad of organizations, our impact is touching the lives of many in our community and beyond.

I'd like to invite you – our family of donors, volunteers and advisors to attend the Canadian Association of Gift Planners complimentary information series on the topic of estate planning and charitable giving. This free series runs from May to September, featuring presentations by members of our Professional Advisory Committee: Rachel Blumenfeld and Barry Corbin.

The recent Federal Budget included proposed changes that will impact the charitable sector. One is to expand the capital gains exemption to gifts of private company shares and real estate.  The other proposes a new measure that will increase the flexibility available to registered charities in structuring their investments. We look forward to continuing to work with donors on their philanthropic goals.

Your partnership has helped to make our organization vital and relevant today and well in to the future.  We foster generosity and enable donors to realize their philanthropic dreams.  Together our vision of a compassionate, caring community is in good hands.

Continue reading below for a glimpse at the great things we are accomplishing together.

Re-telling Jewish History Online
The J.B. & Dora Salsberg Fund funded a series of articles on the Canadian Jewish News website in conjunction with the Ontario Jewish Archives, Blankenstein Family Heritage Centre. The stories and articles focused primarily on the difficult time in Jewish Toronto in the 1950s and the look towards the flourishing of our community which began predominantly in the 1960s. The articles encouraged readers to click through to the Archives new website and explore stories and articles on Jewish history. J.B. Salsberg z"l always wanted to be ahead of his time, and this would have been exactly the type of project he would have been proud to fund. To view the articles, visit ontariojewisharchives.org.
