I moved to Toronto in 1989 with no job, limited resources and I didn't know a soul in the city — no friends, family or even acquaintances to call upon for help here. With the recession starting it was challenging making connections and a decent living. In the face of adversity I reached out to UJA Federation.
I'll never forget the support and generosity of spirit that I received from UJA, particularly Jewish Family and Child Services who helped me through my first year in Toronto as I worked hard to establish my new life in this city. Eventually I landed on my feet and now more than 15 years later I call Toronto my home. I am blessed with a beautiful family: my wife Rona and three children, Adam, Zoey and Rachel. Now, with a solid career established, I am able to give back to the community that was there for me when I was in need.
My hope for our Jewish community is that there will always be a place for people to go to when they are in need.
